Answer :
Khan Academy Video - Circulations in the body
The video beautifully and in simpler terms explains the blood circulations throughout the body. It shows how blood is processed through the heart, and how it flows through lungs for cleaning, and the route it takes to circulate throughout the body. The video shows that there are four sections in the heart - right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. RA and LA are on the upper part of the heart, and RV and LV are on the bottom side. Assuming that the blood starts to flow form RV, then it will move through the pulmonary arteries and into both the lungs. And the blood comes out of the left side of the lungs filled with oxygen. And the oxygenated blood enters LA from the lungs. This whole cycle is called pulmonary circulation. And from LV, blood flows into various parts of the body whether it is brain, legs, and others. And from the body, blood flows into the Right Atrium. Inferior and superior vena cava brings blood from all parts of the body. And this cycle is systemic circulation - circulation between body and the heart. Here, pulmonary circulation relies on pumping of RV, and systemic relies on pumping of LV. Red blood cells do not have mitochondria and nucleus and thus it does not need oxygen to work. Thus it only acts as a career of oxygen and nothing else. Heart and lungs get oxygen through systemic circulation and the coronary vessels are used that come out from the right aorta (Khanacademymedicine, 2012).
