The lysogenic cycle is an example of the replication cycle a virus’s use, where the viral genome integrates into host cell’s DNA, forming provirus which can remain dormant for extended periods. At this period, the virus does not replicate further, and it just lies dormant not producing more viral particles. Rather than DNA being produced direct, its replication becomes a part of the division process that is among the host cell’s own DNA. In this way, the virus preserves the ability to replicate without any visible symptoms or inflicting any damage to the host. The lysogenic pathway distinguishes from the lytic one, where the virus actively reproduces causing many visions to be released and the lysis (the killing) of the host cells within the end closure. Some genes, including bacteriophages and some herpesvirus, have a characteristically dual cycle (lytic cycle and lysogenic cycle are said) which is said to be dependent on the environmental factors
