Question: Hair color is darker during what stage of growth?

a. anagen b. catagen c. telogen d. testing

Answer: a. anagen

The growth phase is the active part of the hair cycle, where new hair shaft is formed and hairs look as dark as they should. That is because at this stage, the follicle is manufacture melanin, the pigment that cause for the hair color, under activity.

At the early stage, the formative anagen phase seen where the hair follicle is highly metabolically intensive, and the melanocytes are actively synthesizing and transferring melanin to the growing hair shaft. Hence the hair is more visible and the hair color appears more vivacious and darker.

On the contrary, during the catagen (transition) and telogen (resting) the hair follicle slows down and day by day melanin supply reduces gradually, so the hair appears more silver or gray.

Although, the word “testing” here does not mean hair development, but rather refers to some analysis techniques that could be used for many purposes, including detection of drug abuse or monitoring of the environment.
