Indian Removal Act, signed by the president Andrew Jackson and became a law in 1830, was a key turn in the process that forced the moving the tribes that were living east of the Mississippi to the specially designated lands west of the river. The act was not in favor of the sovereignty and land rights of the Native American tribes, as well as the imposition of military force – which led to the most notorious “Trail of Tears” and the pacification of tens of thousands of Native Americans from their birth land. This policy was one the United States government’s way of making way for western expansion and appropriation of the Native American territory for settlements of white people, which was a clear disregard of the agreements and rights they had within the country.
