a. Sales

b. Source

c. Service

d. Deliver

Answer: a. Sales

There are five operational supply chain management activities known Plan, Source, Make, Deliver and return. It is important to note that sales is not one of these five components.

Supply chain management addresses the concern of the movement of products, information and cash from the acquisition of material to the distribution of finished products to the consumers. In Organizational strategy, the five components are; planning the strategies and resources (Plan); getting the goods and services (Source); transforming the raw material to products (Make); organizing the orders and deliveries (Deliver); and utilising the reverse flow of the products with defects or excess products (Return). Sales on the other hand is another organizational function that focuses on the process of creating income through the sale of products or services within the market. Although sales are a vital activity for any business organization, it is not necessarily involved in the coordination of organizing and controlling the activities of the supply chain from the suppliers’ side to the customers’ end.
