Which of the following bones are NOT a part of the appendicular skeleton?

a. Shoulder

b. Hip

c. Skull

d. Upper limb

Answer: c. Skull

The axial body can be defined as the central core of the body and any part lying outside of the axial structure is called an appendicular body. In general, animals can be separated into animals with an appendicular cavity and animals with an abdominal cavity, the latter includes skulls, vertebrae, sternum and ribs. The appendicular skeleton consists of bones that attach to this axis, forming the limbs and their connecting structures: the first, superior; the second, sternoclavicular joint, the third, the scapula of the upper limbs as well as the acromion of the humerus of the upper limbs and the ilium and ischium of the lower limbs. This will mean therefore that the arm – the shoulder, the hip and the upper limb of the human body are part of the appendicular skeleton and the skull is part of the axial skeleton- is the correct answer.
