Frequency and wavelength are the two attributes whose reciprocal is unique to each other. This relationship can be expressed by the equation: wavelength (λ) therefore equals wave speed (v) divided by frequency (f). If the wave speed was constant for a particular type of material, then the only option would be to associate the reduction of the frequency with the increase of the wavelength in such a manner that the equation remains equal. For example, the variation of the sound waves’ wavelengths is relative to frequency; therefore, low frequency will have a large number of wavelengths while high frequency has a small number of wavelengths. This principle can be applied to any kind of wave, including; electromagnetic waves e.g. light waves and mechanical waves for example water waves.
