Which of the following receptors respond to light?

(a) mechanoreceptor

(b) thermoreceptor

(c) photoreceptor

(d) nociceptor.

Answer: (c) photoreceptor

The most popular class is the photoreceptor receptors because they detect changes in light. These are located in the retina area in the human eye and play a crucial role in the whole vision. Both rod and cone photoreceptors are structures that alter the photons of the light into electrical impulses which can be translated by the brain to receive vision.

There are two main types of photoreceptors: An organ capable of enabling perception will have rods and cones. They comprise rods which come with characteristics of red and share direction with green enabling black/ white vision and working best in conditions with poor light while cones enable colour vision and work efficiently in well-illuminated lighting conditions.

The other options of mechanoreceptors, thermoreceptors and nociceptors are also true because in humans such sensations can be related to the feeling of touch, temperature or pain respectively; but, these options have anything to do with the sensation of red light.
