Which of the symptoms below would require you to stop working and go home?
a) Sore throat and fever
b) Coughing and sneezing
c) Swollen glands
d) Hives or a skin rash
Answer: a) Sore throat and fever
Headache and sore throat together with fever are reactions that should put a worker out of the working equation. These symptoms are often indicative of infectious diseases such as strep throat or even viral infections such as flu, or COVID-19, among others. Sweat, when on its own, is the first step that the body takes to defend against pathogens; a sign of a continuous fight is a sore throat. You will still infect the other employees and the disease moves to every corner of the working environment. Further working in the building is discouraged; it is better to rest for the same reason, for you might have to prolong your sickness. Leaving work makes it possible for a person to get medical help in case it’s needed, provides an opportunity for rest, and does not spread sickness to other people at the workplace.
