Question:- Why is sunlight considered a renewable resource? Ultimately, won’t it run out?

Answer: Sunlight is the main example of a renewable resource since people cannot exhaust it as it comes from the sun and is available daily. On the contrary, one can point out that the sun will burn out eventually and will go to sleep when it runs out of fuel, but this will happen in billions of years and will not concern people on Earth.

The source of powering the sun is nuclear fusion which turns hydrogen to helium at the heart of the sun. This is expected to take another 5 billion years before the sun reaches what is known as the red giant stage. From a practical human chronological point of view, such a timespan is virtually astronomical, and therefore, sunlight is practically limitless.

The other sources of energy such as fossil fuels take decades and in some cases centuries to be depleted while solar energy is replenished daily and does not get depleted by being used. Such constant renewal, along with the virtually inexhaustible source of energy, the sunshine makes this form of energy dependable for the future of human life.
