Which one of the following is not an accessory organ of digestion?

A. Liver

B. Gallbladder

C. Pancreas

D. Kidney.

Answer: D. Kidney.

It is quite imperative to note that the kidney is not associated with the digestive system in any way as a supplementary organ. Both the liver, gallbladder and pancreas are accessory organs of digestion even though the kidney falls under the category of urinary organs. Other organs of digestion assist in digestion but they do not constitute the basic alimentary canal. Digestion of fats is completed by bile that comes from the liver; the gallbladder concentrates this substance; enzymes and hormones that are produced by the pancreas are also secreted there. Still, the main roles of the organ are filtering the blood, maintaining electrolyte levels, and forming urine as a means of body waste. While they are critical in stabilizing the body’s condition, it is not involved in digestion like the other organs mentioned.
