The Golkonda state was captured by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1687 after the long siege which had taken place. The siege had lasted for around eight months and taken place in 1687 during the month of January between Aurangzeb and the Qutab Shahu dynasty. Previously, the fort was considered to be impregnable, however, Aurangzeb was hugely attracted towards the wealth of Golconda and fame gained by Hyderabad which was a city founded by Qutab Shahi sultan. The siege of Golconda was mainly considered to be the siege of the Fort of Golconda between Aurangzeb, the Mughal Emperor and the dynasty of Qutab Shahi. Golconda Fort was mainly an impregnable fort on Indian subcontinent before it was captured by Aurangzeb. After the conquer of two different Muslim kingdoms, the Mughal Emperor was successful in assembling the army and also started his siege on the Golconda Fort. Mir Jumla was assigned by Aurangzeb who previously had served to Golconda until around 1655 and further joined Mughals. After Qutab Shahi, the Golconda ruler, refused to surrender towards Mughals, he was fortified along with his servicemen at Golconda Fort and properly protected the Kollur Mine. Massive levels of fortifications were properly constructed by Qutab Shahis throughout the different generations on the granite hill that was more than 400 feet high and was enclosed by an enormous eight-mile wall within the city. The intense fire from the cannon that had taken place at Golconda Fort against the Mughals led to the death of an experience Mughal Commander named Kilich Khan Khwaja Abid Siddiqi.
