Which of the following options is correct?

Accessory structures of the skin include all of the following, except

A. hair follicles.

B. sebaceous glands.

C. sweat glands.

D. the epidermis.

E. lamellar corpuscles.

Answer: D. the epidermis.

It should also be noted that epidermis is also not part of skin appendages; instead, it is a component of the skin. The skin that covers the exterior body part has been classified to have two main layers as we have seen earlier. Subcutaneous tissues are tissues that are present in or connected to the skin; these are not components of the two main layers of skin. They are called keratinising cells because they are part of the skin layer; they have somewhat differentiation function in the hair’s growth and in the secretion of sebum and sweat. Vater-Pacini corpuscles also referred to as lamellar corpuscles are nerve endings in skin that respond to pressure stimulus and vibrations. Here it remains appropriate to point out that although the epidermis is the outer layer of skin, it is not an accessory tissue.
