The control of the Soviet economy was taken over by the Bolsheviks after the Russian Revolution which led to the emergence of the centrally planned economic system. The Bolsheviks under the leadership of Vladimir Lenin seized industries and centralized Agriculture. It mapped out the criteria under which the state nominated labour and allocated housing for the workers. The objective of this policy was to eradicate the social classes and hence bring about a Utopia of a classless society. All industry, commerce, distribution, and even where people worked were centrally planned and directed by the government which moved people around to where they were required. Although this approach aimed at achieving certain objectives such as full employment and fairly distributing available resources, this approach also rigidly restrained individuals’ freedom to engage in economic activities, and often resulted in wastage of resources and inefficiency in production.
