Othello had killed his wife Desdemona due to the misunderstandings created by the plot that lago developed. Othello had been hugely overwhelmed by the increased levels of jealousy due to which he made the plan of killing his wife when she was sleeping. Although Desdemona tried explaining herself and her innocence to Othello, the huge levels of anger led to killing his wife. The tragic event of the death of Desdemona depicted the cruelty levels of Othello and ways by which Othello became a victim of the plot formed by lago. As Desdemona was innocent, her ill-fated murder proved to be major tragedy of the play. Othello had been persuaded by the plot developed by lago regarding the misconception of an affair between Desdemona and Cassio. He also planted evidence like the handkerchief of Desdemona in Cassio’s house which proved to be a major blow for Othello and led him to believe in the unfaithful nature of his wife. Othello killed his wife in Act V despite the efforts made by Desdemona to explain herself. Desdemona however had no idea regarding the reason behind the anger of Othello and this also made her words and pleas useless due to which she was killed. Another sad aspect of this part is that Othello also made attempts of justifying the killing of his wife who had loved him till her last breath. Even while dying Desdemona did not try to blame Othello as she loved her husband. Emilia had also revealed the actual aspect to Othello which increased his guilt related to the murder. Othello also requests people to understand him and further remember him like a man who had overwhelming and irrational levels of love and he also admits his mistake related to killing Desdemona.
