How many valence electrons does silver have?

Question:- How many valence electrons does silver have?

Answer. 1 valence electron

Silver which has the symbol ‘Ag’ has 1 valence electron. This is because silver is in the category of transition metals in group number 11 of the periodic table together with copper and gold. Its electron configuration is [Kr] 4d10 5s1. There is only one electron in the s orbital present farthest from the nucleus, which is the valence electron. Silver has four d-sublevel with ten electrons in it but these are not valence electrons and do not take part in chemical bonding. The fact that it has 5s electron is the reason for the chemical behavior of silver specifically the ability to lose this electron and form +1 ions. It also predicts that silver is often found in the +1-oxidation state in many complexes as is the case with copper.
