Rhetorical device called parallel construction of phrases/sentences arranged the same way by means of similar elements which create a rhythm, balance, and emphasis. Lincoln calls upon these techniques repeatedly throughout the address, saying “we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow” and “that nation, or a nation so conceived and so dedicated”.
