Refugee crisis which had occurred in India after the partition was mainly a result of the combination of different factors including communal violence, lack of the preparedness of the government and various other factors. Partition of India led to division of the country based on religious lines with the Hindus moving towards India and the Muslims were moving towards East and West Pakistan. The issues between two communities led to increase in the levels of communal violence across India and around 14 million people had been displaced and around one million people were killed. After the exit of the British authority, the government that was formed newly were not prepared towards dealing with large migration of the people. Refugee crisis was exacerbated by the monsoon floods and the increase of diseases like dysentery, cholera, plague, malaria, typhus, typhoid and small-pox. Refugee crisis that had taken place in India was considered to be a major result of the lack of enough land being provided to the Muslims. Partition of India in the year 1947 had led to creation of the two separate countries India and Pakistan and latter mainly consisted of the majority of the Muslim population.
