Question:- What is the name of the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach?

Answer

It is a passageway from the mouth to the stomach, and it is known as the oesophagus.

It is a muscular pipe about 25 cm (10 inches) in length in adults and functions as one of the vital structures in the digestive strategy. It starts at the back of the throat and goes down through the neck going down to the chest cavity, and then passes through the diaphragm to join the stomach. The oesophagus is therefore primarily responsible for the process of swallowing food and liquids through muscular movements known as peristalsis which moves content from the oesophagus to the stomach. Serosa also forms the outer layer of the diameter of the oesophagus with the inner layer being the mucous coat to reduce friction. Towards each end of the oesophagus, there can be two rings of muscles which are referred to as the upper oesophageal sphincter and the lower oesophageal sphincter which aids in preventing backwash of food and stomach content.
