Which of the following is not an element of emotional intelligence?

a. Relationship management

b. Emotional stability

c. Self-awareness

d. Self-management

Answer: b. Emotional stability

One of the aspects of EI that is not considered a component of the model created by the scientist is emotional stability. There are four primary areas of emotional intelligence: self and others’ emotional awareness, ability to manage one’s emotions, interpersonal sensitivity, and adequate interpersonal strategies used. It can be noted that apart from the factors outlined above, the concept of emotional stability as such is not among the key components of this framework regardless of the significance of the overall mental health of individuals. Passive self-awareness firstly includes the identification of one’s feelings and moods, and the influence they hold. Self-regulation can be defined as managing one’s feelings or affects and the ability to adjust to altered conditions. The awareness of social aspects means the knowledge of their feelings and one’s capacity to sympathize. Relationship management can be defined as the process of changing and creating the relationships an individual has with other people. It means that even though there can be a correlation between the mentioned aspects of emotional intelligence and the subject’s emotional stability, the latter is not viewed as one of the aspects of EI. Outlining this difference is pivotal to clarify the training that it comprises as well as to demonstrate how individual competencies of EI can be nurtured and employed in one’s daily life or work.
