Which of the following statements about enzymes is true?

Which of the following statements about enzymes is true?

A) The increase the rate of chemical reactions.

B) They function as biological catalysts by lowering the activation energy.

C) They regulate chemical reactions in a cell.

D) They operate at an optimal pH and optimal temperature.

E) All of the above.

Answer: E) All of the above.

In fact, enzymes are biomolecules that have several features necessary for enhancing the chemical processes occurring in living organisms. They assist in speeding up the rate of chemical reactions; as catalytic substances, they furnish an additional route for the reaction with less energy demanding hence speeding up the rate yet they undergo little or no change in the process. From the above explanation, we can deduce that enzymes are biological catalysts, which help to reduce the activation energy. Also, they conduct and coordinate the chemical processes in a cell to achieve the proper working sequence and speed. Moreover, enzymes work best at a certain pH and temperature and these are regarded as the best conditions for the activity of such enzymes. These ideal conditions if altered in any way can reduce the efficiency of these components.
